Our Story

Church On Mission For The City

Hi! I’m Russell Schultz, lead pastor of Mission City Church. I’m originally from Atlanta, but God has given me a deep passion to make Jesus known right here in Kansas City.

Mission City began as a dream during a time of prayer at a local coffee shop in the summer of 2017. That dream grew through years of ministry—including over a decade serving in student ministry across Georgia, Colorado, and Kansas City—followed by a church planting residency and, eventually, navigating a global pandemic.

By God’s grace, Mission City officially launched in October 2020. We would love to connect with you and hear your story.

Our Core Values

Discover the church values you’re looking for: authentic faith, heartfelt service, and a welcoming community, all rooted in knowing Jesus and making Him known.

We want to love our neighbors through the art of hospitality. Serving one another was at the core of Jesus’ teaching. He said that we would show the world that we are His disciples by our love for one another. Because of this, it is critical for every person who walks through our doors to be honored and valued.

Matt 25:34-46, John 3:35 Rom 12:13, Lev 19:34, Titus 1:8

We live in a world that is struggling to communicate effectively and by striving to create avenues for dialogue centered on the gospel we hope to help those who are far away draw near. We believe that communicating well also means listening well and to practice these things is to participate in the way of Jesus.

John 4:1-42, James 1:19, 1 Peter 3:9

We believe the Bible tells one, holistic and unified story pointing to Jesus as King and Savior. As a community of believers, we want to be known for telling the same story in everything we do.

1Cor 15, Rom 10:14-17, 1 Cor 2:1-5

We believe in advancing the kingdom of God by making disciples in our city, in the next generation, and planting churches domestically and internationally.

What We Believe

Statement of Faith

We believe there is one God who created the universe and all that is in it. God exists in three parts – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He reveals Himself through the inspired, inerrant scriptures. These scriptures reveal to us that we humans were created by God to rule and reign on earth under His authority but we chose to define good and evil for ourselves which is called sin. All humans have sinned and therefore are in need of forgiveness. This forgiveness can only be found by grace through faith in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. The church is a community of believers God uses to proclaim salvation, grow disciples, and extend the kingdom of God in the world. One day Jesus will return to gather his followers into eternal life with Him and separate those who do not believe for an eternity apart from God.

Our Beliefs in God, Faith and Salvation

We believe in one true God existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

John 1:1, Deuteronomy 6:4, Matt 3:16-17, 2 Corinthians 13:14

We believe God the Father is the creator of all things. He is the omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, sovereign ruler of the universe. We believe the Father is compassionate and kind, slow to anger, and abounding in loyal love.

Genesis 1-2, Exodus 34:6-7, Psalm 139:1-10, 147:5, Jeremiah 32:27, Matthew 19:26

We believe Jesus is the eternal son of God. We believe he was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, fully God and fully Man. Jesus is the only sinless one. He lived a sinless life. He died on the cross conquering evil and  paying the penalty for the sins of the world. He rose again on the third day, victorious over death. He ascended into heaven, seated at the right hand of God the father.

Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:20, Luke 1:26-38, Galatians 4:4-5, Romans 8:34, Colossians 1:15-23, 2:9, Philippians 2:5-11, Hebrews 4:15, 7:25-26, 1 Timothy 3:16

We believe the Holy Spirit is the eternal God regenerates and indwells believers at the moment of salvation, sealing them as God’s own. He sanctifies believers, transforming them into the image of Christ, empowering them for service, and distributing spiritual gifts as He wills.

Romans 8:9-11, 10:5-13, Ephesians 1:13-14, 4:30, John 16:7-15, 2 Corinthians 3:17-18, 1 Corinthians 12, 1 Peter 4:10-11

We believe the Bible is the inspired inerrant word of God and is the authority on life and faith.

2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:19-21,  Mark 13.31

We believe God created the universe. He created humans in the image of God to rule and reign over God’s good world, to subdue the earth, and to be fruitful and multiply.

Genesis 1-2

We believe God created Adam sinless and called his creation very good.  We believe Adam and Eve sinned(defined good and evil for themselves) against God with the free will God gave them. We believe all humans inherit Adam’s sinful nature, separated from God, and are in need of reconciliation through Jesus Christ.

Genesis 1-3, Psalm. 51:5, Jeremiah 17:9, Mark 7:14-23, John. 1:9-13; 3:1-21, Romans 1:18-31; 3:9-31; 5:12-21; 8.7-8, Ephesians 2:1-10, 1 Corinthians 15:21-22, 1 John 1:8, Ecclesiastes 7:20

We believe the good news is Jesus Christ is the saving king. We believe salvation comes by grace through faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and by declaring him king. We believe salvation is being born again into life in Christ and is not something that can be lost

Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 10:9, 13, John 3:1-7, 10:27-30, 1 Peter 1:3-5, Romans 8:35-39, 1 Corinthians 15 1 John 2:18-19

We believe the church is the body of believers united in Christ. We are the family of God living for the mission of God. We believe the church is the instrument God uses to proclaim Jesus, multiply disciples, and extend the kingdom of God in the world. We believe the Church is the community where believers grow in grace, are equipped for ministry, and are held accountable in love.

Matthew 16:18, 22:34-40, 28:18-20, Ephesians 1:22-23, 3:20-21, 4:11-16, Acts 2:41-47

We believe Jesus Christ will come again to judge the living and the dead. We believe those who are in Christ will live with Him forever in the New Heaven and the New Earth. We believe those who are not in Christ will live eternally separated from God.

Revelation 20-22, Hebrews 9:27-28
